Ok this is far from ground-breaking, in fact for some of us it’s now fairly routine to hear stories like this, more and more so anyway. But nevertheless, I wanted to share it as I found it so funny I nearly fell off my chair!
I have a friend who plays for his local rugby team here in the UK. Americans, read ‘football without girl’s padding and helmets’ :-D
I used to go and watch an occasional game he was playing in. We’d have a few drinks with the players afterwards in the bar, sometimes some folk sing-songs and what-not.
Of course that was pre-Covid, the “old normal” if you will :).
Throughout the past 2 years he has been dying to get back to training, mainly for the fitness benefits of the training, although he enjoys the weekend games too. But the club wouldn’t allow him to train with them once he told them he wouldn’t be taking the vaccine. This went on for months, with many arguments and mostly hands over the ears from anyone he tried to reason with. You all know the routine by now.
The entire team obedienetly ‘did their bit for Britain’, showing how big their hearts were by lining up for their shot of myocarditis.
By this, I mean absolutely everyone involved with the team: Coaches, players, touch judges, physio, bar staff in the clubhouse, even the groundsmen, everyone.
There’s basically nobody involved with the club who isn’t vaccinated, except my friend, Chris.
They didn’t want him at training as he allegedly “posed a risk to their health” so he was pretty miserable for at least a year. Errm, forgive my common sense but I thought they had the vaccine so that they were protected?! Surely he’s the only one “at risk”?
I should point out that Chris was hesitant about training with them too, for reverse reasons. I will sanitise his language slightly, he said:
“I’m not sure I really want my head stuck up the back sides of 14 other sweaty bleeding blokes, what if this ‘shedding’ thing is a real thing?”
Bad feelings aside, they wouldn’t budge for a long while. But they eventually needed his talents for a difficult away game and so finally agreed he could come and train and play in matches again. He was over the moon.
He went along to training on the Thursday, and then played in the away game on Saturday.
He travelled there and back with the whole team on the team bus, coaches etc all aboard with him. After the game he showered with the players, then had drinks and a meal with them afterwards too.
A day later after a few people said they felt unwell, the club got everyone PCR tested. Chris is like me and would usually have told them where to stick their swab, but wanting to stay on good relations with the coach and players, he agreed.
The ENTIRE team and staff tested positive for Covid.
The punchline is comedically short: EXCEPT CHRIS!
I only wish I was making this up! It’s hilarious!
Several tests later and he is still clear. Go figure.
Surrounded by over 20 people for an entire day, apparently where they were all exposed (they believe a player on the opposing team had it) to Covid, yet the one and only person who didn’t contract the ChinaVirus, was the only one they call ‘unprotected’.
Just when it couldn’t get any funnier, they still give him grief about not being vaccinated! As the Brit saying goes…. “Laugh? I nearly sh*t meself!”
Those PCR tests arn't swabs....
